sub-category of your niche.

willing to pay you to help them

4. When you choose a product
you'd like to promote, click

Marketing Basics for You, Friend

Hi Friend! Glad to see you again! You have a great
attitude. :)
Let's get into the meat of the lesson...

So what are the basic steps to making money online?

1) You must determine a niche market and a niche product
which
you want to master. Choose a product that has a personal
interest for you, learn everything you can about it, and
then you can
market it.
If you are just getting started, choose to market someone
else's product. Once you have mastered the sales end of
things,
and are making a living selling for someone else, then you
can begin to
develop your own product.

2) You must get your own web site up and running. If you
already do, great. If you know a programming language, get
to
it. But if you do not, do not try to learn one. Use a
site builder
program---they are easy to use, and you can usually have a
basic web site up and running in a few hours. Note: Most
web
hosting services offer a site-builder program for free with
their web hosting (you have to get web hosting anyway). If
you don't have
one, I just so happen to create and sell site builders. Go
to
SmartAuthor.com to see the list of software. It's in there.

Word to the wise:

3) You must get an auto responder. In 2008, it is
absolutely
critical to be able to easily email all your contacts on a
regular
basis, and you do not want to mail from your own email
account.

All it takes is one SPAM complaint and your email may be
shut
down.
So get an auto responder. I use GetResponse. Many like
Aweber.
If you use one that doesn't have a monthly fee, you may
find
that you don't get the deliverability that you want. That's
been my experience.

4) Create a "squeeze page" on your web site. A squeeze
page
basically asks a visitor to your web site to give you their
name
and email so you can email them information. This is
critical
to
building an online business in 2007. You can get a free one
at

5) Create a series of letters for your autoresponder.
These
emails will introduce yourself to your subscribers, and
share
with
them valuable information regarding your chosen niche
field.
You
will also use these letters to introduce your readers to
your
niche
products.

6) You must generate traffic. In 2008, some of the most
popular
methods are ezine advertising, article marketing, exit
traffic
and
(believe it or not) banner ads. You must get traffic or
all
the
prior steps are useless--you won't make money without
traffic.

7) You must test everything you do. Everything. Test
your
web page, squeeze page, welcome letter, each email in your
auto
responder--everything. I like Adtrackz. There are many.

testimonials. Having said that, are testimonials from real
customer worth it?... how will prospects know that they are
real?

One of the biggest challenges for a small business is building
credibility. A fantastic way to build credibility is by generating
a case study or two for your website or marketing materials.
Leading off the testimonials section of your website or marketing
materials with this will add instant credibility to what other
customers have said.

Offer your product/service at a discounted rate or at no cost
to a particularly attractive potential customer or two in return
for the right to create a case study about their use of your
product. Ask the customer to tell you their story and track
their improvement after buying from you. Then include a link
to their site, their email address, or even their phone number
in the case study. (They would have to agree to this of course.)

Your case-study customer may have to field a few inquiries about
their experience with you, however just the presence of their
contact information would do the trick for most potential
customers.

While we're talking about it, a case study makes for an effective
press release or article/advertisement in a local newspaper
or magazine.

Instant credibility.

I am in a business that sells products through home marketing
(booking shows in homes, offices, professional organizations, church
groups, etc.). I create and sell candles. So far this year, I am
having a problem in getting people to book shows and I feel that
I have tried everything that I can think of. Can you offer me

From your question it is impossible to tell if you have developed
a unique selling proposition for your business. That would be
the first thing to consider. There are no doubt other entrepreneurs
in your area who sell candles as well. If you haven't gone
through the process of creating a profit-pulling Unique Selling
Proposition for your business, then you need to.

Here's how:

Let's assume for the moment that you do have an effective unique
selling proposition. For you it sounds like the challenge is
getting your unique selling proposition out to a critical mass
of people.

Here are a few ideas:

Collect contact info from your customers and send out a pamphlet
or catalog prior to key buying seasons. Make sure every one
of your family members and friends has plenty of samples displayed
at home and in the office. And look for other businesses where
your products complement their offerings and try to negotiate
a joint venture. A gift basket business? A wedding planner?

What about leveraging someone else's success. Is there another
business in your area that makes a killing with home marketing?
Could you persuade that person to promote your products as well?
Could you rent the customer list from that business and send
out a targeted direct mail piece?

I consulted with an entrepreneur a few years ago who started a
candle business out of her home as a side venture. Before too
long she quit her job and was selling her wares full time.

She held "candle parties" at people's homes. She also rented
tables at craft shows and fairs. But the majority of her success
came from word of mouth marketing. Family, friends, customers,
etc.

She quickly began approaching store owners (gift shops, flower

We encounter a boatload of advertising on a daily basis.
A boatload.

Chances are good you have a browser window open right
now that contains some sort of advertising. You might have a
newspaper in the room or a pile of mail, both of which are
likely to include advertising. Just about every television
station runs advertising of some sort.

Even PBS, which claims on its website to "enrich the lives of

to share with you their friends and family members who could
benefit from your services. If your customers are pleased with
their experience then they may be willing to share some names
and numbers with you.

There are more organized ways to request the assistance of
your customers as well. Implement a formal referral program.
Every time someone comes in and mentions that a current
customer referred them, reward that current customer. Keep
track of referrals in your customer database and enable
customers to accumulate significant discounts. Provide the
business-generating customers with free services as a sincere
thank you. Recognize them with a hand written thank you note.
Heck, reward them with cash.

Present each customer with an offer to meet with, give
guidance to, or advise anyone important to them who might
have a need for your services or products. Mention that
there is no expectation of purchase, but a desire to offer
the value that your customer appreciates to his or her
friends, family, and coworkers.

A loyal customer who brings in new customers is incredibly
valuable to your business. You are spending a specific amount
of marketing money to bring in one customer, except now with
referrals you are acquiring more than one customer. With a
successful referral program you are slashing your marketing
costs per customer.

Implementing a successful referral program is the highest
leverage marketing tactic that you can carry out.

what the big guys do. They have lots of average people, making
average decisions, that produce average results. If they do

money at the problem until it does work.

You and I don't have that luxury. What we do has to work and
it has to work well.

My goal is simple. I have used Leverage Marketing techniques
to help numerous businesses develop and improve their
marketing plans. I'd like to help more. This newsletter is
one of the vehicles I have created to reach more people.
